APC Alleges Killing, Shooting Of Members Ahead Of Osun Gov’ship Poll
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has alleged that one of its members was killed while several others sustained injuries in fresh attacks reported across the state within the past 24 hours.
The party also alleged attacks on some of its members and supporters in Esa-Oke, Atakumasa East and Okuku, raising fresh concerns over the security of lives and property ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo, the Head of Media of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, Remi Omowaiye, alleged that Ayegbo Oladale, identified as the nephew of the Director-General of the campaign council, Oluwole Oke, and Taiwo Oluwadele were shot near Oke’s family compound in Esa-Oke on Wednesday.
According to him, Oladale died from injuries sustained in the attack, while Oluwadele was in critical condition.
Omowaiye further alleged that an associate of Sanya Omirin and three APC members were shot in Atakumasa East on Thursday morning.
He identified the victims as Adebayo Dada, Idowu Laide, Ebuke Emmanuel and Adebiyi Ebenezer, adding that Dada sustained severe injuries.
The APC spokesman also alleged that the party’s House of Representatives candidate, Francis Eniade, was attacked in front of the Okuku Divisional Police Station on Wednesday.
He claimed that some of Eniade’s associates were macheted during the incident, while others were allegedly taken away and had yet to be located.
Omowaiye said the incidents occurred within a period of about 24 to 48 hours, expressing concern over the safety of APC members, supporters and other residents across the state.
He called on security agencies to take urgent steps to protect lives and property and prevent further escalation of violence ahead of the election.
Reacting to the development, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, condemned the reported killings in Esa-Oke and the subsequent destruction of property, describing the incidents as unacceptable.
Adeleke, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, directed security agencies to intensify surveillance and security operations in Esa-Oke and its environs.
The governor also ordered the police to investigate the incidents and ensure that anyone found responsible is apprehended and brought to justice.
The latest allegations have heightened concerns over the security situation in Osun as voters prepare to elect the next governor of the state on Saturday.
